about

After his solo soprano saxophone album 'split : body' that appeared on a split cassette last year, Kārlis Auziņš (Mount Meander, Own Your Bones, Keno Harriehausen Quartet) comes back with a multitrack solo saxophone opus.
The album came about through his artistic research within sonic possibilities of saxophones answering a question how the vocabulary gained in the process can be used in a compositional context.
In Kārlis' own words: "Although this was a research mostly within the extended techniques, which often can be rather abstract, I found myself more attracted to sounds that would somehow relate to melody or harmony or remind me of sounds from nature or something tribal-like.
Through the research and the findings arouse the compositional ideas. I wanted to compose in a way that I would compose for an orchestra, but instead of using different instruments for those layers (voices) I used the different possibilities of the saxophone.
Mostly I imagined the whole structure and general concept of the pieces beforehand, nevertheless my composing was (and is) very intuitive almost like slowed down improvisation."
